Using Layer Masks will save you time by avoiding tedious un-grouping, grouping, releasing, and applying clipping masks with the ease of a simple toggle button. So it's very important to make sure the shape you wish to use as a mask is on top of everything else in that layer.
If you hit the masking button without having your desired path on the top, Illustrator will automatically use whatever path is in the top-most sub-layer (or shape layer).
Text will be perfectly positioned in the middle of the ribbon.By creating a path on the very top-most sublayer of each Layer, you can use that path as a mask by toggling the Mask Button in the Layers Pallete. Go Effect>Warp>Arc and choose an 18% arc. You will need to add the arc to this again. Check OFF Clip and choose to Edit>Paste in place. Add a layer mask to the ribbon/shape layer. Copy and Paste in front the regular text. Open up the artwork group and find the text. LAYER MASK TO PUNCH TEXT HOLE IN BANNER. Show everything, but use a gradient fill. Create another layer mask and use a gradient fill to fade away half the logo on the right. Get it filled with solid black… or white. Show how to clip/unclip the whole thing. Create layer mask and hide half of the logo on the left with a black rectangle. Drag the rectangle down to JUST above the artwork that needs to be clipped.
